Description
A March 11 story in French newspaper Le Monde (and republished in English by Worldcrunch) reported several stories of rape by the Syrian government.
Human rights activist Sema Nassar told the paper that soldiers raped a young girl from Hama who has now sought refuge in the United States. After barging into her home, soldiers told the girl’s three brothers, who were at home with her, to rape her. Two refused and were beheaded. The third brother, who accepted, was killed and the soldiers proceeded to rape the young girl.
The date and location of the reported rape is unknown. Because Syrian government officials currently refuse to allow access to journalists, researchers, and aid workers, WMC's Women Under Siege cannot independently verify this report of sexualized violence in Syria.
