Girl, 15, says she was kidnapped, raped, and threatened with prostitution

03:03 Apr 28 2014 Hajwar Aswad, Damascus, Syria

Description
Samira, 15, told an activist named Rana Alnabky that she was kidnapped in Hajwar Aswad, a suburb of Damascus, by a woman who asked her to help her carry some belongings home. There were five men waiting for them at the house, however, and they forcibly held and raped Samira for 10 days, Alnabky said.

One of the rapists finally helped Samira escape, letting her stay in his home. She soon realized that he was trying to prostitute her out.

Samira told Alnabky that she does not know the identity of any of her attackers; they were wearing civilian clothes.

“All I remember is that there was picture of the president hung on the wall with some scribbles on it," she said.

Samira was seen by a mental health clinic after she ran away from home for fear of scandal, she told Alnabky. She took refuge in a women’s shelter for victims of violence.

The dates of the reported rapes are unknown. Because Syrian government officials currently refuse to allow access to journalists, researchers, and aid workers, WMC's Women Under Siege cannot independently verify this report of sexualized violence in Syria.
